System: Old School Essentials (Retroclone of B/X D&D from 1981)
On the outskirts of the Alderean Empire, on the continent of Eldos lies a largely wild and unexplored wilderness full of ancient tombs and ruins of lost civilizations. Treasure and Wonderous lost artifacts of ancient power lie hidden beneath the Earth. A small town was founded in the wilderness, at the edge of the Faewood by a woman named Darby who recovered some of this treasure. Darbyhampton now serves as a mecca for every brigand, two-bit cutthroat snake, mad warlock, and zealous priest with the audacity to call himself an “adventurer”. Explore the ruins near Darbyhampton, reclaim treasures or die trying. If you live, your name may be remembered in song and if not, well dying underground saves on the cost of a funeral.
This is an open table, sandbox campaign. That means that it has the continuity of a campaign, with the commitment of a one shot. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come, roll up a character or continue the ongoing adventures of their current character. No previous experience with the system necessary, no commitment necessary. Just show up, slay some monsters, steal their stuff and if you decide to come back, you get to keep playing that character. There are two nearby megadungeons if you want to dive right in and a whole world full of other dungeons and encounters if you like wilderness exploration. So come play the game the way it was played in the 80s and become a part of this ongoing world of high adventure.
